Wonderful retro 9 carat yellow gold fringe necklace. Textured bars of gold create a wave which dances across the neck creating an elegant undulating shape. Connecting these textured bars is a flat polished link which provides a lovely contrast. The wave shape is continuous, all the way around the neck, which is unique and makes this a firm favourite of mine! The back side of the links is plain and polished, adorned only with a small dip at the top edge. The design of the clasp means the textured side is the top but we've found it easy to wear polished side up too for a bit of a different look. This chain closes with an 0 shape end slotting into a curved terminating end. A hinged section pushes down on top. Circa 1970s
There was an Egyptian revival, seen in fashion and jewellery, during the 1960s and 1970s following the 1963 film Cleopatra staring Elizabeth Taylor and a major exhibit of King Tutankhamun's tomb on tour in the early 1970s.
In very good condition.
Fully hallmarked for 9 carat gold, assayed in Birmingham 1974 making this piece nearly 50 years old.
Measures approx 42 cm / 16.5 inches in wearable length. The longest fringe are 15.9 mm / 0.63 inches in length.
Weighs 33.5 grams. This is a substantial piece with a nice, sold weight to it.
