Antique engraved locket crafted in 9 carat gold. This gorgeous shield shaped locket is engraved with a scrolling foliate style design along the edges and a large heart to the middle. In the centre of the heart is a pair of initials, probably JF or TF, which are in a script font. The back side of the locket is engraved in a coordinating leaf and scrolling foliate pattern with hallmarks for 1906 close to the bottom. Rather unusually, this locket is engraved around the outer edges as well, such a lovely touch which shows a wonderful attention to detail by the original jeweller. Circa early 20th century, British in origin.

In very good condition with some light wear in keeping with age and use. Please press along the edge when closing the locket, pressing in the centre can cause lockets to dent since they are hallow by their nature.

Hallmarked for 9 carat gold, assayed in Chester 1906. The gold is between yellow and rose in colour, leaning toward rose however it's not as pink as modern 9 carat rose gold.

Measures approx 25 mm / 1 inches tall including the attached ring but not the bail, by 18.7 mm / 0.75 inches wide, by 5.1 mm / 0.20 inches deep.

Weighs 2.5 grams.
