Antique Edwardian 9 carat gold shaker locket. This gold locket is such a great size! A slender gold edge holds the convex plastic coverings with their bevel edges keeping them secure within the gold locket edge. This piece opens at the top by twisting the screw top bail. The opals can be removed so that photographs can be added if the wearer would like, and the interior is deep enough to allow small trinkets such as other gemstones, hair, small love notes to be added. Circa early 20th century, British in origin.
In very good condition. The opals are natural gemstones about 1.5 mm to 2 mm in diameter with some having natural inclusions such as darker spots and some are opal chips.
Hallmarked for 9 carat gold, assayed in Birmingham 1907. The antique gold is between rose and yellow, though closer to modern rose in colour.
Measures approx 33.2 mm / 1.3 inches tall by 24.5 mm / 0.97 inches wide by 3.85 mm / 0.15 inches deep.
Weighs 2.5 grams.
