White Gold Diamond Engagement Ring, Late Art Deco Classic Three Stone Diamond Ring in Pretty, Delicate Setting, Circa 1940s.
Add to WishlistThis beautiful white gold diamond engagement ring dates to the 1940s. Late Art Deco styles always interest me. White gold was becoming more common in jewellery and no one did it quite like the Americans who managed a great alloy which allowed for fantastic delicate and fine detail that was incredibly strong. Jewellery was more affordable and available to the young couple than it'd previously been. And jewellers were crafting the most wonderful engagement and wedding rings designed to highlight the smaller diamonds newly engaged couples could afford, putting their skills into making pieces to be treasured for decades. This piece is no exception.
In the centre sits a bright early round brilliant cut diamond. The diamond appears to glow from within and has a nice even facet pattern. It's set in an illusion style setting, surrounded by polished white gold, helping to reflect light back to the viewer and give the impression that the diamond was larger than it actually is. See, clever jewellers! The centre diamond is held in four prongs with a smaller single cut diamond on either side of the main diamond. The accent diamonds are set in a small detailed, pieced design with engraving before leading to a simple shank.
The side of this ring really shows off how thin and delicate jewellers could make their detailing which still making the ring nice and sturdy. The fine detailing made for a lighter weight, and therefore lower cost ring to young couples, while still allowing them the diamond engagement ring of their dreams! This ring is circa 1940s, North American in origin.
