Vintage enamel 9 carat gold matchbox charm. This small pendant is modelled as a box of matches. The front is enamelled in yellow with black writing and the bottom has a textured paper stripe made to look like where you'd strike a match to light it. The inside slides out to reveal a compartment which contains nine tiny plastic matchsticks. Circa 1960s, British in origin.

At one point the loop on the slide portion would have had a safety chain attaching to the bail so it wouldn't get lost. The slide portion is stiff and stays in place very easily without a safety chain.

Hallmarked for 9 carat gold, assayed in London, 1963.

Measures approx 1.55 cm / 0.61 inches tall not including the bail by 1.9 cm / 0.75 inches long.
