Antique swallow engraved locket dating to the early 20th century. This locket is oval in shape and an ornate floral boarder is simply exquisite. On the front and back are two swallows in flight with a long flower design down one side. At the top is a little scroll design which holds the bail. Circa 1890s - 1920.

Victorians loved the use of swallows in jewellery. They symbolise a safe return home and are often used in nautical themes. Inside the locket are two frames, two plastic coverings, and an original photograph. The locket closes well and is in very good wearable condition with minor dents in keeping with age and wear.

Stamped 9ct Front and Back. The engraved section on the front and back is 9 carat gold, which is yellow in colour. The frames and internal section are a brass alloy for strength.

Measures approx 40.8 mm / 1.6 inches tall not including the bail by 27.9 mm / 1.1 inches wide.

Weighs 6.5 grams.
