Victorian wide engraved bangle bracelet in beautiful design. The front half is engraved in a chequerboard style design giving it a very modern look and feel even though it's nearly 150 years old! A dash pattern frames the top and bottom of the chequerboard with star accents between the dashes. Dotted along the top and bottom edges are silver beads. This bangle is oval in shape, to better fit the wrist, and the back side is unadorned. Circa late Victorian, 1870s, British in origin.
Hallmarked for sterling silver. The date letter b for 1876, Birmingham assay office.
The latch is inscribed with a patient number, Jones's . Patent 5194.82 and ...Vete.SGDG.USA.291519. The latch is an interesting one, very different. It would appear that the clasp was made by an American company with a patient and the bangle made by a British jeweller where the bangle was then hallmarked.
