Pretty diamond drop earrings dating to the late 19th century. These earrings are crafted in the dormeuse style and are each set with two diamonds. The smaller diamond on the top is a roughly cut diamond and is attached to the ear wire. At the bottom is a large old mine cut diamond which swings from the the top diamond as well as a frame behind it. This design allows the diamond to move a bit, catching the light as it does so. Both diamonds are set into platinum topped claws and the earrings themselves are 18 carat yellow gold. French in origin, circa late 1800s.
Diamonds: 4 total. 2 old mine cut, approx 3.7 mm and estimated in setting as approx 0.40 carats together, J / K colour, I2 clarity. One diamond has a nic on the crown and the other has a surface reaching inclusion, though they catch the light and sparkle nicely, the diamonds are imperfect. 2 small rough cut diamonds set into the top.
Marked with an eagle's head, the French mark for 18 carat gold, on the ear wires.
Measure approx 1.5 cm long by 6.8 mm wide.
Weigh 3.55 grams.
