Sterling Silver Graduated Chain Necklace, 1920s Chunky Watch Chain with Dog Clip.

Chunky sterling silver chain dating to the Art Deco era. This heavy necklace is formed from oval shaped twisted links so that it lays flat. These links are all hallmarked with a lovely lion hallmark. Along the front section of this piece are hammered rings which are loosely attached to where the oval links connect. This piece would have originally been worn as a watch chain. The links are graduated in size. One end of the chain terminates in a dog clip while the other terminates as a larger jump ring. Circa 1920s.
The hammered links are missing on sections of the chain toward the ends. When worn with the clasp in back this is hidden at the nape of the neck. A larger jump ring is spaced approx 7 cm / 2.75 inches in from the end allowing some versatility in how this piece is worn, such as as for a watch chain, wrapped around as a bracelet or with that bit dangling down holding charms for those smaller necked among us.
Hallmarked for sterling silver, assayed in Birmingham, 1925.
Measures approx 41 cm / 16 inches in length.
Weighs 46 grams.
