Great set of two antique gilt metal watch keys. Used to wind watches before the stem pin was invented in the mid 19th century. These are common worn as charms and we just love their character! This set of two is suspended from an oval shaped split ring and are sold together as a set. Circa early to mid 19th century, Georgian era.
The top ring swivels on both watch keys.
The longer key is set with a citrine on one side and carnelian on the other. The shorter key is set with a quartz on one side and a bloodstone on the other. Both keys are in good condition with the gemstones showing facet wear as expected for use and age over their approx 200 year life.
Longer key: approx 30.25 mm / 1.20 inches tall by 9.65 mm / 0.38 inches wide.
Shorter key: approx 27.6 mm / 1.1 inches tall by 10.85 mm / 0.43 inches wide.
Split ring interior is approx 8.2 mm long by 5.2 mm.
Weighs 4.9 grams total.
