Sapphire and diamond three stone engagement ring. This vintage 18 carat gold ring is set with a square step-cut sapphire flanked by round brilliant cut diamonds. The sapphire is a lovely dark blue colour which is held in place with corner shaped claws. Round brilliant cut diamonds are bead set onto either side of the sapphire. The diamonds are framed by a slightly larger mounting, which both protects them and makes them look a bit larger. Engraved beads trail down the sides before reaching a yellow gold D shaped shank. From the top this ring faces up as though it's set in all white metal, though it's two tone in colour. Circa 1960s, British in origin.

Sapphire: approx 4.3 mm square and calculated in setting as 0.33 carats.

Diamonds: 2, round brilliant cut. Calculated in setting as 0.17 carats total weight, J / K colour, SI clarity.

Hallmarks rubbed but legible. Hallmarked for 18 carat, Birmingham assay office, date letter for 1960.
