Lovely antique 9 carat gold heart shaped clasp charm. This intricately engraved heart is designed in a lock style shape. The front is exquisitely engraved with a scrolling foliate style design, like fern fronds unfurling. The sides are shiny and plain, with the rather rare complete hallmarks we all love to find on jewellery! The back side features a coordinating style pattern with sets of ivy leaves accenting the left hand side.
A top loop clicks firmly into place, allowing this heart to be secured to an item. On the top is a smaller loop which can also be used, such as for attaching a safety chain if this is used as a bracelet clasp. This versatile piece which can be worn as a charm, clasp or pendant. Circa early 20th century, British in origin.
In excellent condition. The clasp is firm and tight. Where two hearts are shown this is the smaller of the two. The other is available separately.
Fully hallmarked 9, 375 for 9 carat gold, anchor for Birmingham assay office, date letter C for 1902. There is also a maker's mark CE&FD Ltd which is for the makers Constantine & Floyd Ltd, a Birmingham based jeweller in business from at least the 1880s though the early 1920s. This heart is rose gold in colour.
