Antique swallow engraved locket dating to the early 20th century. This locket is oval in shape and an ornate floral boarder is simply exquisite. On the front is a single swallow in flight with a long flower garland design down one side. The back side is the same. Victorians loved the use of swallows in jewellery. They symbolise a safe return home and are often used in nautical themes. At the top is a little scroll design which holds the bail. Circa 1890s - 1920.
In very good condition. There are no frames or photo coverings. The locket closes well with an audible snap.
Stamped 9ct Front and Back. The engraved section on the front and back is 9 carat gold, which is between yellow and rose in colour in keeping with the typical colour of antique gold. The internal section are a brass alloy for strength.
Measures approx 33.7 mm / 1.33 inches tall not including the bail by 22.3 mm / 0.9 inches wide.
