Antique ruby and diamond necklace on platinum chain. A lovely graduated set of old mine cut diamonds features a larger cushion cut ruby in the centre. The largest diamonds punctuate the swirled ends of the silver mounting. Flanking the ruby are three smaller diamonds, graduated in size. The gemstones are set into a pinched style collet with has a lovely shape and flow to it. The ruby and diamond section has been converted from a piece of Victorian jewellery and added to an Edwardian era platinum chain. Circa 1870s and 1900, respectively.

Ruby: deep red in colour, cushion cut, approx 6 mm by 5 mm and calculated in setting as 0.78 carats.

Diamonds: 5, old mine cut. Largest are approx 3.7 mm square, second largest are 2.7 mm, third largest are 1.75 mm and smallest are 1 mm. Calculated in setting as 0.80 carats total weight, G to K colour, VS2 / SI1 clarity, graded as mounting permits.

Not hallmarked, gemstone setting as sterling silver and chain as platinum. Small gold dot on chain jump ring as is typical for period platinum chains.

Measures approx 2.77 cm / 1.09 inches wide by 0.085 cm / 0.34 inches tall. Total length is approx 45 cm / 17.7 inches long.

Weighs 4.3 grams.
