Sweet antique 9 carat gold heart brooch. I adore useful, pretty jewellery! This little brooch is exactly that. Formed as a pin, the 1.1 mm thick rounded 9 carat gold wire is looped to form a love heart design. The pin end slots into a divot holding it securely and the open looped ends allow this pin to be worn a variety of ways. It can easily be worn as a brooch. It can also be worn with dog clips of bolt clasps clipped into the looped ends so it can be a necklace extender, decorative top section of a bracelet, or as a pendant. Circa early 20th century, approx 1900-1910, British in origin.
In great condition! Marked with the maker's maker of MB&Co for Murrle, Bennett & Co. Ernst Mürrle and J.B. Bennett started a company together a few years earlier and renamed it to Murrle & Bennett in 1891. Both Theodor Fahrner and Archibald Knox were employed as artists there before it changed names again in 1916.
Marked 9ct MB&Co. Professionally tested and assessed as 9 carat gold throughout. The MB&Co is the maker's mark for Murrle & Bennett.
Measures approx 34.4 mm long / 1.35 inches long by 8.2 mm / 0.33 inches wide at the heart.
Weighs 1.3 grams.
