Antique carnelian and 9 carat gold fob dating to the Victorian era. A large oval cut reddish orange carnelian intaglio is carved with a single rose flower blossom. Above the rose reads L AMOUR. The French word l'amour translates to love making this a beautiful little statement, a rose given in love. Circa mid 19th century.
In very good condition. Stylistically this seal is Georgian but 9 carat gold wasn't introduced until 1854 and the Georgian era ended in 1837. This piece is circa early Victorian, mid 1850s - 1860s.
Not marked, professionally tested and assessed as 9 carat gold which is peachy colour like most antique British gold, a colour between modern yellow and modern rose gold.
