Antique hair comb with an exquisite gilt rose design. This hair pin, dating to the late 19th century, is designed in steel. Two pins are long, made to stick in the hair to support the more showy top piece. Around the flared top is a two tone gilt design of flowers. A delicate edge is subtlety decorated with flowers. Roses trail around the interior, their golden colour standing out against the black background. To the centre is a circle with a large single floral blossom inside. This lovely piece would be great to accent an up-do. Circa 1880s - 1900.
This piece is polished steel and should be wiped cleaned after using. It will rust if left in water. The pins and back are shiny white, steel coloured. The background behind the flowers has been blackened so that the gilt design really stands out.
Measures approx 8.97 cm / 3.53 inches long by 2.6 cm / 1 inch wide at widest point.
Weighs 5.55 grams.
