Antique diamond solitaire engagement ring. A cushion shape old mine cut diamond is set in a class single stone mounting. The diamond is a puffed, soft square in shape and is lower colour, appearing a pale yellow in tone. It has a very steep crown and the large open culet as is typical in antique diamonds. This style of cutting would have been done by hand in the 19th century, giving the diamond some wonkiness, which we think adds to it's charm! The diamond is held in eight small claws on a slender gold band. The band is widest at the back and tapers up, narrowing and sloping up to meet the diamond. Circa late 19th century, 1880s.
