Wonderful antique gold cased intaglio dating to the Victorian era. Carved into the carnelian base is a bird holding a letter with the word "VITE" (quick) above it. A very relatable seal, we've all waited impatiently for communication to be acknowledged from a loved one. The orangish red gemstone is circular is shield in shape with the top of the fob featuring a scalloped design and the handle in a looping lyre style. Circa late 19th century, British in origin.

The fob is testing as 9 carat gold cased which means it's a thick layer of 9 carat gold over another metal, which we were unable to access to test.

Measures approx 20.1 mm / 0.80 inches tall and 12.55 mm / 0.50 inches by 11.1 mm / 0.45 inches wide across the base.

Weighs 2.3 grams.
