Antique 9ct Turquoise Swallow Earrings, Victorian Bird Stud Earrings.Add to Wishlist
Antique turquoise set swallow earrings. These late Victorian stud earrings are designed as birds set with graduated turquoise. The birds are nicely shaped with engraved wings completing their look. These pieces are conversions with the birds dating to the late Victorian era. The conversion, to add a pierced ear wire and scroll backs, was completed at a later date. The birds are mirror images of each other. Swallows were popular in Victorian jewellery. They were meant to help the wearer safely return home and are associated with faithfulness. The swallows date to the late Victorian era, date of conversion unknown.
