A wonderful vintage snake necklace! This snake sits with it's head overlapping tail at the front and when worn this sits just at the suprasternal notch. It's head is beautifully engraved in a few contrasting patterns to give it a scaled look and fiery red rubies are inset for eyes. The body of this snake is a chunky oval shaped turbogas, or gas pipe, style link with wide deep ridges making it flexible. This is such a tactile piece which looks great paired with a lot of necklines. Circa 1960s, British in origin.
In very good condition. The clasp makes a satisfactory clicking sound when engaged as does the safety catch.
Hallmarked for 9ct gold, Birmingham 1965 with a maker's mark for Smith & Pepper Ltd. Smith & Pepper was founded around the mid 1930s and was in business about approx half a century.
Measures approx 38 cm / 15 inches in length by 6.4 mm wide.
