An antique old mine cut diamond is bead set into a white gold top above a swirling crossover style design. This solitaire is different, more eye catching and bolder due to the swirl design. The diamond is an antique cut, a chunky old mine cut diamond, and pre dates the setting by a couple of generations. The diamond has been hand cut and displays a slightly irregular round shape with an open culet and gorgeous high crown. Diamonds don't get thrown away even if settings wear out so it's possible that the diamond was offered to another family member after a couple of generations for use in an engagement ring. A sentiment I always find sweet when we can date the diamond to earlier than the setting! Diamond dates to the late 1800s and the setting to the 1930s, likely British in origin.
The inside of the band retains faint engraving from a previous owner and appears to read, "19-11-38".
