Mid century diamond cocktail ring. Diamond dinner rings or cocktail rings became popular in the Art Deco era. Society was changing and fashion demanded bolder styles with flare. A ring set with several smaller gemstones, rather than a single large one, would catch the light, twinkling and sparkling no matter the angle of the lighting. This ring is crafted in platinum and 25 diamonds form a marquise shape. Down the centre at the 3 largest gemstones, the centre set into a square box with the other two in pentagon outlines. These are lined in milgrain beading, further catching the light, with a pierced section between them and the outer diamonds. 20 diamonds form the marquise shape outline. Each of these diamonds is set into four claws with a u shaped design visible from the side. In the top of each shoulder is a further diamond to total 25. The shank is adorned with a double row of engraved lines and is knife edge in shape. This is one of my favourite styles and I find pub and restaurant lighting particularly pleasing. Circa mid 1930s - 1950, likely North American in origin.
