Victorian day to night earrings in a gorgeous articulated drop. The top section is designed as a wide, flat section with engraving to the edges and puffed gold ball above the flat section. The bottom is also tiered. At the base is a fan shape which is engraved. Sitting slightly above that is a polished bell shape. A further engraved section which also feature puffed gold balls is the the top. These sections are all together as one piece, but their different layers gives them distinct looks. Once the earring is unfastened, the bottom drop can be removed and separated from the top allowing these to be worn with two different looks. Circa late 19th century.
There are small dents to the sphere in the top section of the earrings in keeping with age and wear.
These earrings thread through the back side of the ear piercing and the hooked end of the ear wire catches behind the decoration at the top section. This is different to how most modern earrings work and they can be tricky.
Marked on the side of the ear wire of each earring. Professionally tested and assessed as 18 carat gold, which is rosy in colour.
Measure approx 4.55 cm / 1.8 inches long by 1.5 cm / 0.60 inches wide.
Weigh 3.3 grams together, approx 1.6 - 1.7 grams each.
