Antique neillo chain with locket. This striking piece is formed of twisted, elongated links which alternate between niello and plain. The niello ones are classic in design, a simple, finely striped pattern of black enamel on top of silver. At each of the ends of the main length of chain is a fancy niello dog clip with three little enamel stripes at it's base. One dog clip is attached to a further, matching length with ends at a very large niello spring bolt clasp. On the spring bolt clasp is a round, double sided niello locket. The locket opens to the top with the hinge at the bottom. Inside the locket are both frames, one photo and one plastic photo covering. Circa 1900.

In good condition. The dog clips are tight and work viciously well - be careful not to catch your finger! The spring bolt clasp is in good order and the locket fastens with a little click. One of the plastic photo coverings is missing and the rose gold gilt has worn off the plain links, one of which is slightly bent. This is a very wearable chain and locket which can be worn as a single piece or easily worn as shorter chain, just the locket or just the chain extender.

Stamped 800 near one of the dog clips. This piece tests as 800 silver.

Measures approx 50 cm / 19.75 inches in wearable length. Main chain of 43.5 cm / 17.15 inches, extender of 6.5 cm / 2.55 inches. Locket 2.9 cm / 1.15 inches tall by 2.58 cm / 1 inches wide.
