Old mine cut diamond stud earrings. The diamonds are bright, lovely old cuts with nice chunky facets and typical old cut proportions. The diamonds are secured in six silver claws which meet on a 15 carat gold rounded section to form a collet. These earrings are such lovely sparkling spot on the ears and are a great size for everyday wear.
What a unique find these are! Silver was the go to white metal in the Victorian era before platinum, and later white gold, were in use. These old diamonds have their original collets, made of a gold rounded section which touches the ear and silver claws. We love that these are in their original collets approx 140 year old collets!
The collets came to us loose, having likely been side stones in a ring at some point. We've used recycled gold to make posts and added new scroll backs. Circa 1880s diamonds and collets, modern conversion.
Diamonds: old mine cut, approx 4.1 mm wide and calculated as 0.26 carats each to total 0.52 carats, H / I colour, SI1 clarity within the limits of the mounting.
Not marked, professionally tested and assessed as silver claw atop 15 carat gold collet. We've added bars in the back and posts made from matching 15ct Victorian gold. The scroll backs are new and are 18 carat gold.
