Wonderful late Art Deco diamond engagement ring. This ring contains two diamonds, illusion set, into a bypass or twist style design. Each diamond is set at the centre of an engraved pattern which is made to reflect light. The setting serves three purposes; it was the style of the time, the diamonds are protected, and it makes the diamonds look larger. Britain between the wars was not a wealthy place and settings with diamonds, as opposed to the more traditional sapphire, were coming into fashion. Intricate designs from talented jewellers allowed the average woman to both own the fashionable diamond and have a lovely, detailed setting. This ring dates to mid 1930s - 1940s and is British in origin.
