SOLD. Sorry, this item has sold.

Antique blue guilloche enamel locket dating to the early 20th century. This double sided sterling silver locket has a gorgeous starburst pattern. Guilloche is made by carving a pattern into the silver and then enamelling, a coloured glass power which flows and forms hard when fired, over the top to allow the pattern underneath to show through. The edges around the enamel have a gold wash over them. Both sides are the same and in excellent condition.

A large tab means this piece can easily be opened. To the interior is a pale gold gilt. There are no frames or coverings. It wasn't unusual to have enamel compacts or pill holders and it's large size means it could have been a pill holder originally though it's not as deep as what we normally see for those. The widest edge is a polished silver as it the jump ring and bail on the top creating a subtle two-tone look. Circa early 20th century, 1900 - 1920s, Edwardian in style.

Stamped "925s" on the interior. Professionally tested and assessed as sterling silver. Each side is gilted with the widest part in the centre and the bail not gilted.

Measures approx 45 mm / 1.78 inches tall including the fixed jump ring but not the bail, by 41 mm / 1.6 inches wide and 11.9 / 0.47 inches deep.

Weighs 35.5 grams. This is a heavy piece.

Sold without a chain. The book chain shown on model is available separately.
