Antique 9 carat gold long guard chain formed of faceted oval shaped links. This eye catching chain is made of a longer oval shaped link, three rounded links, and repeated. Each of the links are faceted and catch the light. Both ends of this chain are attached to a large dog clip. Marked on both the tag at the end of the chain and on the dog clip with a maker's mark of WHMLd. We believe this is for William Henry Williams, a goldsmith from the 1840s. Circa mid to late 1800s, European in origin.

A previous owner has attached a discreet 9 carat gold spring bolt clip and jump ring. After the chain has been doubled around the neck, these can be fastened together so that the necklace stays in place. This can, of course, be safely removed should the new owner prefer it.

Marked 9ct for 9 carat gold on the dog clip and on a tag near the end of the chain. Tested as 9 carat gold throughout.

Measures 146 cm / 57.5 inches long and is approx 3.4 mm wide.

Weighs 27.4 grams.
