What an incredible locket! The front is a beautiful work of art with a large rose and small forget me nots highlighted in enamel. The flowers are shaded in pinks, white, yellow and greens giving them a striking realistic look. Engraved along the edges are leafs. And oversized tapered teardrop shape bail allows this to be worn on a substantial chain such as a book chain. The back is plain other than hallmarks. Circa 1880s, British in origin.
In very good condition with minor scratches and wear. This is a large locket, please press on the edge rather than centre to close it as pressing in the centre chances denting it. It closes firmly with an audible sound. There is one photo frame and one glass covering. The glass covering is etched with a 13 on it which is very difficult to see. Do not scrap off the protective backing on the interior of the enamel side, it's there to protect.
Hallmarked for sterling silver, assayed in Chester 1882. Hallmarks are rubbed from use and age.
Measures approx 44 mm / 1.75 inches tall not including the bail, 60 mm / 2.35 inches tall including the bail, by 32.5 mm / 1.28 inches wide, by 10 mm / 0.40 inches deep.
