Victorian trombone link sterling silver chain. This sought after piece is wonderful with it's long, open links. And the best bit? It's a hugely wearable 21.25 inches! The elongated trombone shaped links alternate with a series of three rounded links creating a a very classic and easy to wear style.
This chain would have originally been worn by a gentleman as a watch chain, a style known as a double Albert. Today they are commonly worn by women or men as neck chains. The double set of dog clips can be worn to the front to display an oversized pendant or locket, or worn to the back. In the centre is a t-bar with the little tail link hanging alongside it. Circa late 19th century, British in origin.
In very good condition. The dog clips are nice and springy as they should be. The dog clips do not match in size nor in markings, both are sterling and of their time, they've simply been replaced at some point.
Hallmarked for sterling silver on the t-bar and links. The t-bar has a maker's mark of F&S and a date letter for 1890s. One dog clip has the maker's marks for HW and the other for SS.
Measures 54 cm / 21.25 inches end to end, oblong links are approx 6.2 mm wide by 22.6 mm long.
Weighs 43.2 grams.
