Vintage rose cut diamond necklace. Thirteen beautiful rose cut diamonds set into a platinum topped pendant. The largest diamond is set in the centre with the metal sloping away down to the diamond frame. The diamonds in the halo are all set close together creating a circle of the subtle sparkle that rose cut diamonds are known for. Rose cuts are an older style of diamond cutting. Each diamond is flat on the bottom with all the facets coming to an apex on the top. The larger, and somewhat irregular, facet patterns sparkle in a more subtle way than modern round brilliants which have more facets and are cut for more modern lighting. Rose cut diamonds are hand cut and were first cut many decades ago, long before household electric lighting.
This is a conversion piece. It appears to have start it's life as an earring and arrived to us as a ring. The top didn't fit the curve of the finger making for an awkward ring so we've converted it into a pendant. The chain is a belcher style link measuring approx 1.2 mm wide. This chain fastens with a lobster style clasp. The diamonds are set into a platinum top. Rose cut pendant dates to approx 1900s and the conversion is modern.
Diamonds: 13, rose cut. Centre is approx 3.8 mm and the 12 surrounding diamonds are approx 2.4 mm each. Diamonds are white with some inclusions visible to the eye upon close inspection (if they're that close, they aren't think about your inclusions!). Rose cut diamonds are incredibly difficult to estimate weight due to cut, please refer to measurements.
