Antique baby signet ring from the company Ostby Barton. The square shaped face is engraved with a single "H" in a lovely script. Each of the shoulders is pierced and adorned with an engraved flourish. These baby rings were popular at the turn of the 20th century. We're not entirely sure what they were used for but believe they were used in Christening, naming and other religious ceremonies. I have my own that I wear on a gold chain necklace with other small charms. This ring is circa 1900 - 1910, North American in origin.

The Ostby and Barton Co. was started in the late 1870s by Engelhart Ostby and Nathan Barton. The company thrived though the early 20th century. In 1912 Mr Ostby was abroad the Titantic when it went down. He was travelling with daughter, Helen, who survived. The surviving family members took over the company which continued to produce jewellery into the 1950s.

Stamped OB 10K, professionally tested and assessed as 10 carat gold.
