Vintage round brilliant cut diamond engagement ring. This ring is set with a single diamond in an illusion style platinum topped setting. The style gives the impression of the diamond being larger than it's actual size. Each of the shoulders is engraved with a double row of graduated platinum beads which are lined in milgrain beading. Further down the shank is a baguette shape. This style of ring was popular during the late 1930s to early 1950s. Diamonds were just becoming more affordable as the gap between the rich and poor was narrowing. To own any diamond was quite a big deal and clever jewellers were hand engraving intricate designs to make engagement rings look as though the diamonds were larger and more plentiful. It works beautifully and makes this style my firm favourite. Circa 1940s, British in origin.

Diamond: round brilliant cut, approx 3.3 mm and estimated in setting as 0.10 carats, I colour, SI2 clarity.

Marked 18ct & PLAT. This ring is mostly 18 carat yellow gold with the diamond set into a platinum top.
