Victorian pinchbeck long guard chain. This fancy link long guard chain dates to the late 19th to turn of the 20th century. Wide, flat engraved links are spaced around this chain and connected together with large, chunky belcher links. The terminating ends are both connected to a swivelling dog clip. The dog clip is the screw style where the top ring unscrews toward the base to allow the hinged clip to open. It's a bit fiddly until you get used to it, but works well and is secure. Circa 1890 - 1910, likely French in origin.
