Antique seal dating to the late Georgian to early Victorian era. Seals are great pieces of history with all their messages and sentiments. Used with wax to seal letters during the 19th century and before, the message could give you a peak into what you'd find inside - like a title in a modern day email.
The glass base of this seal is a royal purple in colour and faceted to the edges. The flat top is engraved with a dove carrying an olive branch and Paix A Mon Ami, French for Peace to My Friend. The top is closed and the glass is foil backed to bring out the colour, however that does mean that it's best not to get wet. In typical 19th century style, the ridged detailing on the top of the collet and the handle or loops of the seal is designed as little foliate style flourishes. Circa mid 19th century, around 1830s - 1850s.
